Champions Cup, Fall League, & State Cup

Hello Boca Families-

It probably feels like the season has been moving pretty slow, but now we are fast approaching the bulk of our season.  On August 14th & 15th we have our own Adidas Champions Cup at Larchmont Community Park.  The weekend after the tournament we jump right into our Fall League and Nor Cal State Cup.  Fall League will be played on Saturdays and Nor Cal State Cup will be played on Sundays.  Even though I will continue to send emails updating everyone, I am also going to add a Nor Cal link on all the team’s website so families can refer to the website for scores, directions, etc.

Please continue to check your team’s webpage for updated information about tournament, practices, and league games.  Go to www.capitalathletic.com and click on “Boys Teams” or “Girls Teams’.  Select Boca 01 for U9’s or Boca 00 for U10’s.

Boca 00 News
July

Hello Boca Parents-

I just wanted to thank everyone for getting the girls out to the intensive training.  The coaching staff felt all the girls worked hard and showed improvement during the 4 practices.  Our theme for the week has been passing and keeping possession of the ball.  In order to keep possession we want the girls to have confidence with the ball at their feet when dribbling and passing.  It is also important for the girls keep a good shape on the field and continue to position their bodies to receive a pass from their teammates.  We have been scrimmaging the U9 and U10 boys to help speed the game up and it has really help our girls concentrate, play faster, and be a bit tougher.  This process or “style” of play can be very tiring but as they get older and more consistent technically the girls will have more success individually and as a team.  Spain would be a good example of a possession oriented team.  Some key words you might hear on the field are:

Check In - movement off the ball

Shape - movement off the ball
Pace - speed of the pass or speed of the dribble.

Ex:  “Dribble the ball with pace or pass the ball with more pace”

Please keep this in mind as we move forward into our games and tournaments.  Sometimes we will look fantastic and way beyond our years with our style of play and sometimes we will look like we have never kicked the ball before in our lives.  It is natural and part of the learning process.  Take a look and please feel free to watch our U15 and Academy Girls play during practices and games.  Almost all of them started with Boca at the U9 or U10 level and it is a joy to watch them play as a team with individual and creative flare.

Wednesday's Match Analysis Video
The girls did a fantastic job in the office watching the World Cup matches.  We watched parts of two games:  Germany vs. Australia and Brazil vs. N. Korea.  We wanted the girls to pay close attention to the 1v1 attacking ability, shape, and defensive ability in both games.  This has been our focus for the months of May and June. If the girls have time please have them watch a game or two for about 15 minutes.  Games can be found on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, or online on ESPN3.com
