U.S. Club Soccer
Capital Athletic Soccer Academy is a member of US Club Soccer. CASA plays in tournaments and leagues exclusively as a US Club Soccer member.Founded in early 2000 by a group of soccer club coaching directors representing several well known soccer clubs, US club Soccer has grown to over 1,200 members in 47 states.
US Club Soccer is a non-profit organization committed to the support and development of competitive soccer clubs. It is founded on the belief that soccer clubs, which are in the business of elite player development, need an organization of their own to foster growth, address concerns, and sanction and provide programs with a minimum of rules and restrictions.
Policy decisions for the organization are made by a nine member Board of Directors, who must be experienced coaches in member soccer clubs. US Club Soccer is run by an Executive Director and a staff of fourteen. The administrative office is in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with regional staff in three additional locations.
US Club Soccer is a National Affiliate member of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), and as such registers players, and sanctions teams, leagues, tournaments and other soccer programs. Players and staff pay an annual registration fee. There are no other administrative or sanctioning fees.
US Club Soccer is built on the belief that:
(1) Soccer clubs are the key to player development in the U.S., and while the State Associations play an important role, as the vast majority of their players are at the recreational level, rules that foster equal playing opportunities have been their priority.
(2) We have spent too much time governing competitive soccer rather than encouraging its growth. The business of the day to day development of top youth players rests with the competitive soccer club. A business-friendly environment must be created to develop programs and services which assist the competitive club and player, provide a minimum of rules and regulations to assure basic fairness, and allow clubs the flexibility to build programs that meet their needs. For example, in all US Club Soccer sanctioned competitions, players will be allowed to “play up” in age if their club so chooses, and travel permissions will not be required to attend events in other states.
(3) Clubs must work together to grow the club system. This includes speaking with a collective voice on important issues affecting them; assisting clubs organizationally and technically through our technical committee, staff, and club services programs; and coordinating player development with national teams and professional clubs.
As a National Affiliate Member of the United States Soccer Federation, US Club Soccer has a seat on the USSF Board of Directors. This allows the organization to play an important role in helping formulate USSF policy, monitoring issues that have an impact on soccer clubs, and serving as a spokesman for club soccer interests.
In addition, the US Club Soccer Executive Director and its Board and committee members possess many years of experience in a variety of important soccer positions. As such, they have developed relationships and are in regular contact with soccer leaders throughout the country.
The ability of the organization to articulate views and positions on behalf of its member clubs via meetings, the website, media, and other communications vehicles, and to advocate club interests and initiatives with other soccer organizations, is an important role for the organization.
In addition, given the myriad of rules and restrictions and the oftentimes confusing nature of soccer governance, US Club Soccer will play an important role in assisting member clubs with local soccer matters, both in clarifying rules, and defining rights and responsibilities.
